14th Weekly Spotlight -- Shelley's Handmade Creations
My craft is hand knitting and crocheting. When I was a young girl both of my grandmothers loved to knit and crochet. One preferred knitting and the other crocheting. It looked like a lot of fun and I sat behind them and taught myself how to knit and crochet.
2. How long have you been doing it?
Its been more than 40 years. I stopped knitting in the 80’s and then picked it up again about 12 years ago.
3. What is the most important thing you have learned about yourself since you started your online business?
That it takes a lot of time to get your self noticed with an online business. You have to work at it everyday until you get a good following. Becoming a part of groups helps and asking lots of question has helped me out a lot. One group that I was with helped me redue my Etsy Shop so that I would get noticed. There is definitely a right and wrong way. When I first started my online business I was doing it the wrong way.
4. What is the one thing you do for yourself on a weekly basis -- non business/family related?
I started taking Zumba classes. I realized that I had to do something for myself and love dancing so I thought this would be a good place to start. Its lots of fun even if I can’t always keep up with the steps.
5.What is your most useful organizational tool?
According to my husband I’m very unorganized. I have projects in all areas of our home. I’m really organized but he doesn’t agree. I keep my projects and yarns in plastic containers and have them all labeled. When you have as much yarn as I do you have to be organized. Must admit that some days I do feel very unorganized.
6a. What is your favorite online market and why? (etsy, folksy, ebay, hyena cart, zibbet)
So far I have most of my product line on Etsy. I have an Artfire shop but only have a few items listed in it. I have to work on adding more products to it for more exposure. I also have a Zibbet shop with few products. Honestly it is very time consuming and difficult for me to keep up with the three shops.
6b. What is your favorite shoppe?
This is a hard one for me. I love so many but my truly favorite is http://www.etsy.com/people/henrystreet I love how she creates such beautiful items out of pieces of colored glass and other media. It is always great to see the new items that she adds to her shop.
7. Your favorite quote.
It is what it is!
